"In The Two Pillars S. C. Biela presents and examines two of the most fundamental aspects of interior life: contrition and gratitude. He insightfully likens contrition and gratitude to two spiritual pillars in unexpected, thoughtprovoking ways. Additionally, Biela reminds us of the special gift and role of the Blessed Mother as God's instrument who assists the individual in growing in the authentic contrition and gratitude necessary when following the path to sanctity."

Author Bio: Slawomir Cezary Biela was born in Poland in 1956. He studied at the Warsaw University of Technology, where he earned his Doctorate in Physics. He also studied at the Papal Faculty of Theology in Warsaw, especially in the field of the Theology of Spirituality. Since 1977, S.C. Biela has been cooperating very closely with Rev. Tadeusz Dajczer, Professor of Theology, who is also the founder of the Families of Nazareth Movement. Together, through countless and laborious efforts, they laid the foundation for the spirituality of this worldwide Movement.

Foreword By: Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, Archbishop of Washington.

I recommend this deeply spiritual book to all the faithful that they might see through the eyes of faith these two pillars of spiritual life. Contrition and gratitude are essential for the life of grace that opens us to Redemption. May Mary, the Blessed Mother of God, be our example as we open wide our hearts to allow Jesus Christ to enter our lives. I ask her intercession for all of us as she stands in deep humility and gratitude before her Divine Son and calls us to walk in these same great virtues on the path to God's mercy.

Theodore Cardinal McCarrick
Archbishop Emeritus of Washington

S.C. Biela's latest book is a welcome addition to the Christian tradition of spiritual literature. The central themes of Gratitude and Contrition are contemplated in a way as to help the reader to counter-challenge a culture of prideful entitlement, of a loss of the sense for sin, and of coldness of hearts. A most valuable book!

With every good wish

Gratitude and Attitude, by Loretta Oakes

Have you ever let pride get in the way of something? Have you ever wanted to say you're sorry, but couldn't?

Have you ever been unable to go to confession because you were embarrassed about something you did?

You are not alone. It is the human condition. But what keeps us from saying we're sorry?

Pride. Pride gets in the way of a lot of things; it gets in the way of life. It's so insidious that you don't know how deep it runs. Before long you are sinking in an ocean of it, and you don't even know why.

The sands of mediocrity are washing you away and your fear is paralyzing you from swimming to the Truth. What can you do?

The Two Pillars offers the reader a twofold way to battle the storm of pride and mediocrity. It gives the reader the tools to overcome pride through its numerous examples and through the author's gentle waves of revealing the truth to us about ourselves.

We all face the same problems. We all have pride. This book will give you the means by which to release your pride and come back to God. Didn't know you were away from God? None of us realize how pride builds a wall between us and our Father in heaven. We don't understand that we need the attitude of contrition daily. But with the tools of gratitude and attitude we can make the journey home to our Father in truth and light.

Jesus says that unless your house is built on stone, it will not survive. You cannot weather the storm without the right tools, without the right house. Weather the storm with The Two Pillars. You won't be disappointed.

S.C. Biela offers a simple and yet profound answer to the isolated, self-suffocating world we live in through his book, The Two Pillars. His deep reflection on the virtues of contrition and gratitude, and how they connect one to God's perfect will, is both practical and meaningfully rooted in our Catholic Faith. Clearly, the deadly sin of pride must be continually exposed and excised if we are to more fully embrace and be transformed by God's Truth. As a son, a husband, a father, and a psychologist I can and will apply Biela's insights and would gladly recommend this book to those I care for and work with."

As a senior layman of the Christian Church, it was enlightening to me to read the interpretations of the Holy Scriptures with references to the saints that the author Biela makes. He explains the importance of contrition and gratitude in our lives if we are to know God's love for us.

Yesterday hurricane Ernesto hit up here and I was in all was the first "rest" since my son Mike left for Iraq and I found myself emotionally exhausted. I spent the afternoon on the couch with "The Two Pillars".

What an amazing gift you have given me...while reading it I could not help thinking how true it all is, for I relate so much with both the prodigal son and david...God freed me from the depths of depair..crushing my pillar so that I could come to know Him. I know what is written to be true from my experience of healing from my abortion and it continues to amaze me how the spirituality fits into our ministry to women and men who have had an abortion, so deeply.

It is so humbling and such a gift to be reading it and even more of a miracle of His mercy that you would ask me to write something.

These books are so convicting while at the same time so comforting...they do fill me with gratitude for the gift of faith He has given me, in spite of myself.

This new book The Two Pillars, by S..C. Biela presents the Truth of discipleship in all its splendor and simplicity. I find myself attracted and challenged to profound poverty of spirit to enter more fully into the embrace of The One True Love. The Two Pillars are contrition and gratitude that intertwine to dispose my heart for deeper communion with Jesus through Mother Mary. The book is a source of much grace for the interior life. It is an inspired work of wisdom that will enrich the Church.
